What Are Nano Lubricants?

Nano-Oil™ and Nano-Grease™ are lubricants that contain tiny spherical bearings, somewhat like ball bearings. These bearings are a synthesised carbon molecule approximately 90 nanometers in size. To put that in perspective, a nanometer is 1 millionth of a millimeter! The nano-bearings are formed under extreme heat and pressure, in a similar process to making synthetic diamonds.

The Nano-Bearing concentrate is then put into the lubricant base. Due the negatively charged state of the Nano-Bearings, they penetrate and settle in the micro grooves/pores of machined metal parts and transform sliding friction into rolling action, thereby tremendously reducing heat development. This provides a very smooth metal to metal dynamic contact which in turn reduce wear and premature mechanical failures. The reduced friction also accounts for energy savings, and improves the performance of the machinery it is applied to.

The average flash point across the line of Nano-Oil is circa 500 degrees Fahrenheit (260 degrees Celsius), so it is a very safe oil and well as providing excellent lubrication at high temperatures. The Nano-Bearings themselves cannot burn and the only way they can be entirely removed is by sanding the metal parts treated. Nano-Oil is quite safe for plastics and none of the Nano-Oil and Nano-Grease formulations can Polymerize (basically changing its state to a hard plastic like compound).

For model mechanisms, we recommend the Light 5 weight oil, and we sell it in convenient 8cc (8 ml) pocket oiler with a stainless steel blunt needle and cap. A single pocket-oiler should look after the average modeller's requirements for some years. This same oil is also highly recommended for any small device with moving parts, and can also be used in clock movements, firearms, bicycles, small motors, fishing reels etc. We also stock a small quantity of the medium 10 grade oil, ask us if you need some.

The Nano-Grease™ is sold in a 30cc syringe to make it easy to place the grease where required. We recommend the grease for use in the axle gearboxes of our mechanisms to lubricate the worm and worm gear. The grease is a special Lithium complex formulated for high temperature, high pressure applications. As before, it is also suitable for a number of other applications. The 30cc syringe, as you can see from the photograph, is probably a lifetime supply for most modellers.
